This is the second cocktail recipe, and liqueur, Berentzen sent me to try and I have to admit, I’m surprised by the quality in these liqueurs. I’m so used to that cloying corn syrup and artificial sweetener flavor from the DeKuyper’s stuff I’ve used in the past that it’s almost refreshing to use something that’s not nearly as saccharine.
It is still a liqueur and so by nature still quite sweet. If you’re not a person who likes sweets, like me, you might want to go a bit easy on the liqueur and ginger ale when crafting this cocktail. Made according to recipe it was tasty, but for own tastes I found if I backed the liqueur down to about .75 oz and only used enough ginger ale to make it fizzy (~1 oz) the Irish Whiskey popped a bit more which I really liked.
Overall the Lepearchaun is a pretty decent cocktail. The Irish Whiskey spice mingles with the sweet pear liqueur, tart lime juice and ginger ale for a cocktail that is tasty and refreshing. It’s also very simple to modify for your own tastes while keeping the essence of the cocktail in tact.
If you experiment with this one I’d love to hear your thoughts below.
