Today’s bourbon review isn’t actually a bourbon, the Angel’s Envy Bourbon Whiskey is a whiskey specialty because bourbon can’t touch anything but new charred oak. Which is also why on their site it’s billed as Angel’s Envy Whiskey.
Finished in ruby port casks, this whiskey is a culmination of a vision by a father and his son: Lincoln Henderson, ex-Brown-Forman master distiller and his son. Which is where I believe they were sourcing their bourbon from. They have the connections and the mash bill is the same as BF’s so…

Angel’s Envy Bourbon Whiskey Review Review: Overall and Score
Sweetly interesting. Aroma is soft and sweet with layers of sweets without much in the way of rustic notes to balance it out; Palate follows suite being sweet all around without much to balance it out; Finish picks up more nutty notes and kind of ends like a PB&J.
Y’know, the finish actually that sums up this whiskey, an oak-aged PB&J. Overall the Angel’s Envy Bourbon Whiskey is sweet, too sweet for me. I know some love it but for me it’s borderline cloying. The port sweetness doesn’t fully compliment so much as take over and pull away from the bourbon essence.
SCORE: 2/5

A Fine, Fine Whiskey
Just picked up my third bottle today. Love the nose, and the finish even more. I’m a Bourbon fan, but hopefully not a Bourbon “snob.” Not my absolute favorite, but 4 out of 5 stars. I just know what I like, and I love Angel’s Envy!
I don’t consider myself a snob either, WT 101 is my day-to-day. Glad you like it. Cheers Rick!
I was at a nearby VFW last night and noticed the bottle behind the bar. I asked the barmaid if that was a bourbon and she said yes. So I tried a shot. While my shot was being poured, a young man at the bar told me that he drinks Angels Envy on occasion and liked it. That was encouraging words for me, mainly because I have never heard of this brand before.
After my shot was poured and ready for me, I took that first sniff but was disappointed that it was poured into a plastic shot glass. I was ok with the aroma but I am thinking that a hint of plastic was included. Then the sip. My wife was standing with me and she took a sip also. She liked it but later told me that “it burned a little.” She doesn’t drink her whiskey straight.
I liked it and would get it again, but I don’t see myself buying a bottle for home consumption. Angels Envy to me is not your typical bourbon, but worthwhile. I give it 4 stars.
As a side note, my usual “go to’s” are Jack Daniels, Old Grand-Dad, Maker’s Mark, Jameson, and Templeton Rye (when I can get it).
Cheers Greg, glad you enjoyed it. If you like Templeton you can buy Dickel Rye or any number of MGP ryes and you’ll get the same whiskey only without any added artificial flavoring.
Gimmick Bourbon
The juice tastes fine but it’s overpriced for what it is a midline bourbon with a gimmick.
If I want bourbon I drink bourbon, if I want port I drink port, if I want port flavored bourbon I mix in a few drops of port into my 2 oz pour of bourbon
Strong 4
This was a top-notch strong 4 star Whisky. This reviewer must be writing about something different than what I tried. Will buy again
I might have drank a different batch, but I definitely drank the whiskey pictured. I just don’t like their overly sweet finishing. Cheers.
The stuff is god awful … by all means if you want to ruin bourbon – age it in port barrels … whats next apple flavored bourbon ?
There’s not enough -O-O-O-O’s in Smooth to describe this bourbon.
The taste of this drink is marvelous. I have tried this didn’t disappoint me. There are so many drinks in this price range but I especially like this one.
Thanks, Josh Peters for sharing this nice article.
Cheers!
I rate this whiskey a bit higher. I heard a lot of good things but sweet, this whiskey is not. The nose is sweet but the after the initial taste, it is just harsh. It’s not balanced as the early sweetness leaves fast. Not awful but far from great. 3/5
Thanks for sharing, cheers Jason!
