Look through online auction sites and see if anything similar has sold recently. If the bottle is in good shape it could fetch an alright price at auction.
Nice work Josh. Whenever you decide to line-up a panel, I'm game!!!! I just tried High West (Rye and Vodka) for the first time and am totally excited that such good stuff is made around here.
How often will you be posting episodes? Nice format for this, very informal and conversational. I saw a Modern Marvels episode a couple years ago that got me started on single malts, along with a conversation with a work friend who had been in Scotland for 8-10 months, working in the lumber industry – and got an excellent intro to single malts that I envy.
I'm glad the format worked for, it's something I messed around a bit with in the beginning and don't know if I've quite perfected it yet. As far as how frequent episodes are going to be, right now I'm going to strive for 1 a week and as I perfect the process for shooting, editing, etc. I will then try to do 2 a week.
Single malt scotch can be very delicious, for me it needs to have less of a smoky flavor. Scotches that smell like a campfire the second you open the bottle turn me off quite a bit, which is also why I like the blends better. They tend to be less smoky.
I've seen the same Modern Marvels, they had it on a month or two ago and it was partially responsible for me wanting to do this. I have been a whiskey fan for a while and decided to do something about it.
What's your favorite scotch? If you let me know I'll put it in the review line up.
I've not tried many of the smokier single malts, sticking primarily to The Macallan, Glenlivet, Glenfiddich, and Aberlour – in that order actually. I really like Jamesons as well, of all the blends.
I've have to say my favorite is The Macallan 12yo, although I've had shots of the 15yo, and it is very good. The Glenlivet 12yo French Cask is probably the smoothest single malt I've ever tried.
