2015 has been a rollercoaster of a year with changes big and small in the industry. Though the one thing that has stayed constant is the upward march of the secondary market on things like Pappy, BTAC and other Limited Editions. It’s insane… really, it is truly insane what people are paying for what amounts to a yearly release.
Anyways, I’m not here to rant about that again, but instead here to say you don’t need to spend your kid’s college fund to drink well. So without further ado here’s 10 whiskies, in no particular order, you can pick up this weekend and ensure you’re drinking well through 2016.
- Fighting Cock
- Henry McKenna 10 year SiB BiB
- Evan Williams BiB
- Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel Rye
- Red Breast 12 Cask Strength
- Bushmills 16
- AnCnoc Rutter
- Ardbeg 10
- Benromach 10
- The Arran 12 Cask Strength
- George Dickle No 12 – This one is cheating since I reviewed in it 2014, but I drank a lot of it in 2015 and that’s why it’s a bonus at #11
Here’s to great 2016. Cheers!
Josh don’t you think it’s time for another one of these along with another TWJ Whiskey Awards?
I would never presume to do what you do. My palate at best supports 3 states: Ew, Meh & Yum.
Even so, with your help I was able to settle on my own 6-bottle rotation of affordable, findable Bourbons.
Buffalo Trace
Eagle Rare (should be Weller Antique 107 but it is too hard to find)
Stagg Jr
Maker’s 46
Russell’s Reserve 10 year Small Batch
Henry McKenna Single Barrel 10 yr
Thanks again for your help!
I do indeed. I meant to do it this last year, but started a new position at the day job that has been sucking up the free time ever since :/
Outta the bourbons/whisky that I’ve tasted in 2015 – I must say the most pleasant surprise/s was the George Dickel No 12, and the Buffalo Trace.
Cheers!
This is a great list Josh.
I agree with you 100%. There are so many great products available right now. Forget the special editions and enjoy some readily available products.
My add on’s would be WT 101, OGD 114, Old Pulteney 12yr and Highland Park 12yr old.
Thanks for all of your reviews. Cheers and have a great 2016!!!
All good whiskeys for sure, thanks man. Cheers!
Glad you listed Henry McKenna 12 yr BiB. One of the things I prize is a product that is consistently good. It’s really good, I should say great, considering the price.
Thanks Curt. It’s such a great value I couldn’t not add it after enjoying it so much this year.
Cheers!
