Jim Beam Jacob’s Ghost is a lightly aged whiskey that, while I can’t say is my favorite sipping whiskey, is definitely better than I thought it would be. One of the most significant differences between the Ghost and other white whiskey is that this one spent 1 year getting cozy with a barrel compared to many of the other white whiskeys out there that spend only a day to a month in a barrel.
When It comes to tasting it has some very surprising aspects and a sweetness that rings of desserts and sweet spirits which I’ve only really encountered in one other white whiskey and that was the High West Silver Oatmeal. Typical white whiskey is a bit more harsh, a bit more aggressive than this so if you’re just getting into white whiskey this is a good place to start.
If you’re wondering what the difference between white whiskey and moonshine is it’s simple. Legality. Moonshine is the illegally made version of white whiskey, but the white whiskey movement is taking it over and you’ll often see white whiskey labeled as moonshine. All in all it’s not terrible and I recommend if you get a chance to give it a taste. Especially if you’re curious about exploring this end of the whiskey spectrum.
If you have tried this whiskey please add your own tasting notes in the comments below. I’d love to see your thoughts on this unique whiskey.
Jim Beam Ghost Review

Distiller: Jim Beam
EYE
Mostly clear with a hint of yellow.

A cornucopia of sweet flavors like marzipan, pineapple compote, orange, lime, vanilla frosting, hint of salted caramel, tequila with an overall bready quality to the taste.
FEEL
Very smooth though a little cloying from the flavor.
FINISH
Short finish of corn, rum and tequila.
SCORE: 78/100
This was weird. At first I kind of liked the sweet taste and it was easy to sip neat, but then it became too cloying. It wasn’t bad enough to tip down the sink, so I finished up the 375ml bottle by using it as a mixer with orange juice, which made it palatable. Won’t be buying it again.
Don’t blame ya. Cheers!
Southern pride moonshine is the best “clear” that I have tried.
Mix it with gingerale. Gets the job done.
This is entry level stuff with a way too high price tag. That said, I’m enjoying it neat as I type this. I like it. It reminds me of good shine made with very tight cuts. I do wish it was 45 or 50 percent instead of 40. I think the light proof is why it’s so east to drink neat. I’ll be trying it with coke next but I suspect the light flavor profile won’t stand up to coke well.
How’d it do in the Coke?
we mix the ghost with the devils cut and mountain dew called it the devils ghost
Interesting review. Contrary to Mike, I found this to be a unique & excellent sipping whiskey, both on the rocks & straight up. Likewise, it blends very well into any recipe that requires bourbon.
It’s flavour to me, in a nutshell, is a less complex Jim Beam Bonded with a bit more “bite.”
I truly enjoyed it–ymmv.
Cheers!
To each their own, but thanks for sharing. Cheers Jay!
I found this whiskey to be gross and unpalateable.
