G. Rozelieures Fume Collection is a peated French Single Malt that hails from the Grallet-Dupic distillery which resides in the village Rozelieures in Lorraine, France. The whiskey is 2x distilled and aged in 3 different locations on their property. Some of the barrels are stored in a high-up attic-like area, a vaulted cellar and a military fort that was abandoned in the 1870s.
The whisky is made from a medium peated malt (20 PPM) that is aged in ex-Fino Sherry barrels for 8 years. One thing to note is that the peating is completely unlike that of Islay because the peat is made from completely different plants than that of the famous Scottish bogs. It’s a drier, more wood smoke like kind of peating. It has a totally different character that’s very interesting compare to the inky iodine-like peating the Scottish isle of Islay is so well known for.

G. Rozelieures Fume Collection Review
Toasted nuts, malty grass-like hay with light bits of smoke, cocoa, spice, citrus and char. The peating on this one comes off more like burnt wood than an Islay kind of peat and adds an interesting dimension to the whisky.
Smoke, malty sweetness, char, roasted nuts, wood, spice and a touch of vanilla. It’s not incredibly complex, but it does carry a nice even flavor.
Medium length, smoky and malty with bits of cocoa, hay and citrus.
BALANCE, BODY & FEEL
Moderate balance, medium body and soft smooth texture.
G. Rozelieures Fume Collection is the only whisky of the G. Rozelieures line that I really cared for. It doesn’t have any of the musty funk that the others had, but like the others it suffered from a lack of complexity. They say it was aged in ex-Fino Sherry casks for 8 years, but the color and flavor makes me feel like the casks were mostly refills because I’m not getting much of that nice sherry sweetness that typically comes from a first fill barrels.
Disclosure: This bottle of G. Rozelieures Fume Collection was graciously sent to me by the company for the purposes of this review. The views, opinions, and tasting notes are 100% my own.
