The Gentleman’s Cocktail is a prohibition cocktail that is equal parts interesting and refreshing. Ice, club soda and creme de menthe on their own make a very refreshing drink and adding the brown liquors give it an interesting flavor punch that is equal parts sweet and savory. The creme de menthe really seems to accentuate the whiskey and the brandy and brings out unique aspects of both.
It’s definitely a cocktail worth giving a whirl just for the sensory experience alone. If you’re not an immediate fan try adjusting the level of creme de menthe. The original recipe (posted below) calls for a full 1/2 oz, but I found if I went down to about a 1/4 oz that the mint faded more to the background making it less aggressive upfront, but still pronounced in the aftertaste which I really liked.
