When John visited the SCWC to talk about this whiskey he called it a “Tuesday Whiskey”, something to drink that was good enough to be in your glass, but you didn’t expect much from. That couldn’t be a better description of this Old Scout American Whiskey 107 – West Virginia Pick. It’s not a celebratory whiskey, but it ain’t crap either.
It’s refreshing to hear a distillery/company talk about their whiskeys in the proper context. To know that this isn’t an A+ whiskey and know that it has a purpose, a function and a place. Hearing John say that made me like the brand even more than I already did. They have a deeper fan for life.

Old Scout American Whiskey 107 – West Virginia Pick Review: OVERALL
There is a marked difference between this Old Scout American Whiskey 107 (West Virgina Pick) and the one picked by Nasa Liquor. The Nasa had more oak influence whereas this one was more sweets and spice driven. The aroma is sweet and nutty with grain notes coming through as popcorn. The palate was fairly similar but with the spice being stronger.
As John called it at the tasting, this is a good “Tuesday Whiskey”. It’s something that isn’t overly complex, won’t blow you away by any means, but is a good whiskey for every day sipping and mixing. Especially at the 107 proof, it’ll make for a great cocktail as it delivers the kind of kick that’ll stand up to other ingredients and ice.
SCORE: 85/100 (B)

Just picked up a bottle of this that was bottled for Houston area Total Wine’s. I agree with you about the TN component likely being Dickel. I’ve always found the Dickel corn flavor profile to be very distinctive and its alive and well here. I like this one a lot. Very well put together and a great daily drinker, although the $39 price tag is a little on the high side for me for an everyday pour. And despite the slightly higher than normal proof it never comes off as “hot”. To me anyway. This one goes in the “buy again” category.
That’s awesome. Seeing how powerful that Dickel character is from bottle to bottle is my favorite part. Thanks for sharing, cheers!
